Dirty windows stop the natural sunlight to enter the house and make your winter tasteless. In rainy or hail season when the moisture level is very high, dirty windows limit the sunlight, and mold and mildew grow outside windows and in your house interior as well. It is important to clean windows so that sunlight can enter. And you can enjoy a clean and hygienic environment in your home. No matter you live in a 6th-floor apartment or in a house. Window cleaning is a chore that many people overlook.

Windows needs to be thoroughly cleaned twice a year. Moisture, dust, mold, dry leaves leftover,  stubborn stains due to rain outside or greasy hands prints from inside make your glass window and window tracks ugly. Everyone wants to keep windows clean as they were at the time of installation. Let’s discover how to thoroughly clean the windows.

How to Clean Window Screens

There are different types of window screens like fixed and detachable, mesh, or sunblock window screens. You install the widow screens according to your weather. Mesh windows block insects and pesky flies and mosquitos to enter through windows. But they trap dust and spider webs over time. It is important to clean the windows screen so that you can breathe in fresh and clean air.

First of all, detach the window screens and clean the dust pollen grains and spider web with a vacuum cleaner. Then prepare the cleaning solution with one part household ammonia and 3 parts water in a bucket. With gloved hands apply the solution with a sponge. Then with a garden hose clear the solution and wash the screens thoroughly. Then pat dry with a towel.

How to Clean windows screen without removing them

If screens are fixed you can not wash screens with a garden hose. You need to protect the floor or carpet with any plastic sheet. And prepare a cleaning solution with household ammonia. Wear gloves and apply the solution with a sponge. With a brush rub the gunk. Then dip the sponge in plain water and clean the solution. When the screen gets clean dry it with a microfiber cloth.

How to Clean Window Blinds

If blinds are detachable then take them off and soak them in water with few drops of dishwashing soaps and one tablespoon of baking soda. Leave them for an hour then rub them with a brush and wash with the help of a hose. This method is applicable to vinyl, plastic, and faux wood.  If blinds are made of fabric or wood then you can not wash them. Use a vacuum cleaner to dust off the blinds and use a sponge to spot clean the stains.

For fixed blinds open the blinds and clear dust with a microfiber cloth one by one from each slot. Prepare a solution of dishwashing soap in water and apply it on the blinds with the sponge and dry with a microfiber cloth one by one. In the end clean pull string in the same way.

How to Clean Window Molds

Mold on windows looks ugly and is hazardous for your family’s health. Breathing in mold spores can lead to serious health risks. Leaking windows and condensation in a humid and closed environment are two major causes of mold buildup on windowsills.

To clean the mold from windows, use a solution a liquid bleach in water in a 1:3 proportion. Before cleaning, windowsills from mold spores, take protective measures. Wear dusk mak, gloves on hand, and goggles to cover your eyes. With the help of a brush, clean mold spores. Then dip a sponge in the solution and apply it to the area and leave it for 10 minutes where you find mold on windowsills, glass, and frame. Use a clean microfiber cloth to dry the surface. To prevent mold growth quickly air dry the window with a hairdryer or a fan.

How to Clean window glass without streaks

How to Clean window glass without streaks

The fastest and streak-free method of cleaning windows is by using a squeegee. The things you need to clean windows with a squeegee are a scrubber, a bucket full of water, dishwashing liquid, lint-free rags, or microfiber cloths for quick drying. Keep spare squeegee blades to use in case if one gets ruptured, breaks, or sliced. Because a broken squeegee blade will leave streaks on the window or door glass. Use the scrubber or sponge to the windowpane and use a squeegee to wipe it out for crystal clear window cleaning. Use a rag or microfiber cloth to dry the surface.

How to Clean windows from Outside

Cleaning windows from the outside is just easy if you live on the ground floor. But if you live on the 2nd floor then you will need a ladder to clean the windows. You can use a squeegee to clean window glass and other areas the same way discussed above.

And if you live on the fifth or 6th floor, then you need to consider buying some equipment based on your budget. You have many options like a magnetic window cleaner which you can operate to clean both sides of windows at once. But it needs a little practice to master the spotless cleaning. Moreover, it is a hectic job.

You can use a U-shaped telescopic pole. The kit comes with two attachments, one is a squeegee, and the other is a circular sponge and two cleaning cloths. This tool is best for cleaning sliding windows and removes most of the dust and gunk. Use window cleaner to spray on the window glass and use the tool to clean the windows from inside and outside.

A robot window cleaner is also a good option. You can buy a smart device that may costs you $150 to $500 based on efficiency. To operate the device, first, attach a safety pod and harness to catch the device in case it falls. Attach the cleaning pad and spray bottle with a cleaning solution. The cleaning solution could either be a dishwasher liquid or vinegar and baking soda solution. Turn on the switch. It will scan the window. The two built-in squeegee starts work and efficiently clean the windows from inside and outside. When cleaning is done, the device comes in the starting position.

If you live on a higher floor, then do not take risk of cleaning windows for yourself with a ladder and manual cleaning. I would suggest you hire window cleaning services. The average cost of window cleaning is $250. Other

than windows there are many hard to reach places, you can not clean like a pro. Hard to reach places that are difficult include

  • Ceiling fans and light fixtures
  • Cabinet tops and Tall furniture
  • Refrigerator Coil
  • Gutter cleaning
  • Dishwasher filter cleaning
  • Garbage disposal
  • Heating and Air Register Covers
  • Computer Keyboards
  • Window blinds and tracks

If you are young energetic, dedicated, and above all have plenty of time, then will get succeed in window cleaning by yourself. Otherwise, find a window cleaning service near your area and make your life easy.
